Sydney instrumental band Captain Kickarse and the Awesomes have teamed up with powerhouse experimental label Bird’s Robe Records for the release of their debut album.
Bandmates Phil McCourt and Alex O’Toole have co-produced 'Grim Repercussions', which showcases their signature blend of math, prog and psychedelic rock in the vein of early Mars Volta and Mahavishnu Orchestra.
Without a permanent bass player in the line-up, they wrote the bass parts together before engaging Bird’s Robe label-mate Alex Wilson, from Sydney post-rock heavyweights sleepmakeswaves, to lay down the tracks in the studio.
Alex explains, “Having Wilson on board for the recording was just fantastic. We love sleepmakeswaves and we’re thrilled with what he has done for our album”.
The debut album is eagerly awaited, some would say overdue, arriving after two years of hiatus.
It follows their critically appraised 2009 EP ‘Falsimiles From The Facts Machine.’
After a sell-out launch at SYdney's Excelsior Hotel, it was widely picked up by community radio including FBi and 2SER, and performed onstage during national headline club tours and at festivals.
Its success saw Captain Kickarse become finalists in the 2010 Musicoz awards, feature in the top ten of Triple J Unearthed and being handpicked to support Japanese cult legend Tatsuya Yoshida on his “RUINS- ALONE” Australian tour.
